Lawson's creates a buzz about honey!
To promote National Honey Week, Lawson's invited local beekeepers to set up an observation hive outide the shop. As well as tasting Aldeburgh Honey, Snape Sea Salted Honey Caramels and Lawson's Honey Mustard Dressing, crowds gathered round to see the bees and learn about them from Laurie Wiseman and Fran Abrams from the Leiston Bee Keepers Association.

£1000 raised for our local youth charity
Our chef, Peter, has raised the amazing sum of £1000 for the Aldeburgh Youth Club. On Sunday 29 April, Peter and his son, Hugo, ran the Shakespeare Half Marathon in Stratford upon Avon through the pouring rain to raise the money. He was generously sponsored by many of our customers and by several businesses in Aldeburgh High Street.
The youth club was set up this year by the Reverend Celia Cook, curate at Aldeburgh Parish Church and over 50 teenagers regularly attend. Lawson's has chosen the youth club as our charity for 2012. Earlier this year we raised £230.00 making and selling pancakes on the High Street on Shrove Tuesday and a barbeque is planned for the members in July.

Best Delicatessen-Suffolk Food and Drink Awards, again!
On 5 October, Richard, Claire, Tina and chef, Kim, attended the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards at the lovely Ickworth House near Bury St Edmunds. Not only were they treated to a champagne reception and a delicious lunch, but the event, organised by the Suffolk Magazine and the East Anglian Daily Times, provided a great opportunity to catch up with friends from the Suffolk foodie world.
The team from Lawson's was delighted to be awarded 'Best Delicatessen' despite stiff competition from the other finalists, fantastic local delis - Simply Delicious in Leiston and Leo's Deli in Framlingham. Judges, Lesley Dolphin from BBC Radio Suffolk and Jayne Lindill, editor of the Suffolk Magazine said that the judging was extremely difficult as all three finalists impressed them no end, but ultimately it was Lawson's involvement in the local community which was the deciding factor.
Suffolk has an amazing network of talented artisan food producers and retailers who are committed to their customers, so to win the award again, for the fourth time, is a huge honour.

We are thrilled to have just found out that Lawson's Delicatessen has been nominated in two different categories for the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards 2011. Not only have we been shortlisted for the 'Best Delicatessen' category, but also, Richard has been nominated as 'Local Food Hero' !
Needless to say, we all agree that Richard should win, but if you are in any doubt, we think you'll agree that any guy who lets the Lawson's girlies get away with creating this image, deserves a prize!!

Red Nose Day 2011
We raised a grand total of £320.00 for Red Nose Day, thanks to our fantastic team at Lawson's who contributed recipes for the recipe booklet, and to Jamie Oliver who supported us with his quote "Lawson's Deli always pulls out the stops for Red Nose Day, so please do support them this year and buy their book".
A huge thank you to all our customers who purchased a copy of the booklet and to the Aldeburgh Bookshop, Baggotts Newsagents and the Sant Studio in Woodbridge for selling the booklets on our behalf.
We still have one or two copies of the Red Nose Day recipe booklet left, so it's not too late to buy your copy.

LAWSON'S DELICATESSEN - WINNER OF DELI OF THE YEAR 2010
Everyone at Lawson's is thrilled to announce that on Sunday 5 September 2010 we won the coveted Deli of the Year award!
Following a rigorous judging process that involved 400 nominated delicatessens being whittled down to 100, then down to 10, then the final five, we were visited unannounced by independent, hand-picked judges from the world of food. The judges travelled up and down the country before choosing Lawson's as the winner.
Organiser of the competition, Giles Henschel of Olives et Al, said about us, "There is a warm, lively, friendly feel about the deli, which is very much part of the food scene in Suffolk. Lawson's Delicatessen has the deli attitude that makes them stand out above other delis. Congratulations to Richard, Claire and their four very loud, very cheerful and bubbly staff".

Our prize was presented at the Speciality and Fine Food Fair in London on 5 September. It includes a trip to a stunning olive growing area of Spain to take part in the Full Moon Olive Harvest to learn more about olives from the experts on the ground. There will be a fantastic feast and a chance for us to bottle our own "first pressing" olive oil. We also win a behind the scenes day at London's world famous food store, Fortnum & Mason. We can't wait to go! Watch this space for news about it all.
The Lawson's team had a fantastic day, a delicious lunch at the new Union Market in Fulham, and were treated like royalty by Giles and his wonderful team at Olives et Al. We would also like to extend our thanks to all the judges who chose Lawson's as the Deli of the Year.
