COOKERY BOOK OF THE MONTH
in association with the Aldeburgh Bookshop

Lawson's have joined forces with Mary and John James at the award winning Aldeburgh Bookshop just up the road to suggest a cookery book each month. The chefs at Lawson's will be trying out a selection of recipes from each book, so you will be able to taste their successes before you try them out yourself at home. The book can be bought both at Lawson's Delicatessen and at the Aldeburgh Bookshop www.aldeburghbookshop.co.uk.

The book we chose last month has been such a success we thought we would extend it into January as there is no better way of warding off the winter blues than by keeping busy in a nice warm kitchen.

JANUARY

The Primrose Bakery Book
by Martha Swift and Lisa Thomas
Price: £17.99

The Primrose Bakery Book The clever cooks at the Primrose Bakery in North London have produced another fabulous book featuring recipes for their much loved cakes and bakes.

Baking is big right now and this book is full of easy, tempting recipes and great photos. There's lots of novel ideas and a whole section on tips and techniques to give you the confidence to try something different.

Winter is the perfect time to get baking - warm kitchen, wonderful sweet and spicy aromas and comforting, delicious cake or biscuits to return to after a cold, frosty walk.

I've lots of cake making and baking books but this one has quickly become a firm favourite. It would make a great Christmas present for a keen cook or for a teenager who enjoys making and decorating cakes and has plenty of recipes to keep the whole family occupied during the holidays.

The pear and ginger cake on page 124 or the flourless chocolate cake on page 115 would make a fabulous pud with a dollop of cream or creme fraiche and there are recipes for a ginger cream Christmas cake, cranberry and orange cupcakes with white chocolate buttercream and Christmas pud cupcakes with brandy buttercream. Just the thing if you want an alternative to the traditional cake.

The book isn't just limited to festive recipes - there's a classic Victoria sponge, shortbread, apple and blueberry loaf, peanut butter cookies, coconut and raspberry slice and lots of other favourites which have made the Primrose Bakery a 'must go' destination for many.

Hope you enjoy using it as much as we do!
